Surrendering Animals

PAWS is only equipped to accept cats and dogs. Other exotic animals will not be accepted, but we will try to pass along your information to interested people.
Before turning your animal over to PAWS, think twice. Our volunteers are more than willing to help with PCS problems, such as fostering your pets until temperatures are good for flying. Take a look at this site and consider taking your pet with you in a PCS. Transporting Pets From Japan. Often times, the cost of taking your pet with you is less than our average surrender fee.

The first step to turning your animal over to PAWS is to contact us by email. This is the best way to reach us. In your email please state

  1. Name of animal
  2. Dog or Cat
  3. Male or Female
  4. Age
  5. Fixed or Not
  6. Reason for surrendering to PAWS
  7. Any medical or behavioral issues

Our requirements for accepting a cat are as follows:

    - An updated and signed medical history from Veterinarian.
    - An updated and Signed Vaccination Certificate.
    - Vaccines are not coming due within 90 days of the turn in of the cat.
    - An updated FeLV/FIV test with negative results shown.
    - The microchip identification number needs to be listed on the Certificate.

Our requirements for accepting a dog are as follows:

    - An updated and signed Vaccination Certificate stating:
    - Vaccines are not coming due within 90 days of the turn in of the dog
    - An updated heartworm test with negative results shown.
    - The microchip identification number needs to be listed on the Certificate.

The animal will be reviewed to ensure it is adoptable.  Excessive medical issues and behavioral issues can lead to a denial of surrender.

The turn in fee for cats and dogs is $250 and can be paid by cash or check.
     The reason we charge this turn in fee is because we are considering the care your animal will need while at the shelter. Our entire operation is run by volunteers and funded mainly by the money we receive for surrenders and adoptions. We consider how much it would be to take an animal with         you when we determine our surrender fee.

~If the animal is not fixed, then you will have to pay for it to be done once surrendered to the shelter~

**Please note that PAWS does not always have open space for incoming pets. We reserve the right to turn down any surrender at anytime.**

If you would like to have your animal listed on our website as a private adoption, we will put up pictures and any information you give us about the animal, as well as your contact information. We have success with people finding homes for their animals through our site.
